madrid modern

if we were grown-up, and decorating a pied-a-terre in madrid, and trying to rein in the more questionable elements of our decorating taste, we hope it would look something like this.
lighting matters
matter is the new york city hook-up for all things lighting-related. at their ICFF party on saturday we scoped out a few selections:

the torch light cluster by sylvain willenz had all the product designers drooling. the floor model featured red wiring and less variation in size and height of the headlights.

the louvre by edward carpenter and andre klauser for established & sons references window blinds, scandinavian lighting design, and rear windows of every sort. the one we spotted at matter was done in a natual finish, though it also comes in brass and colored versions.
white noise
some news: we’re packing up and moving (back) to brooklyn, the lovely neighborhood of ft. greene to be specific. we don’t mind the hassle and heavy labor because moving means imagining a whole new space. like these:

we’ve also been considering one accent wall in black-on-black wallpaper. comme ca:
stay tuned.
voisinage ‘bio’

eden bio (villa des vignoles) is a new eco-forward residential community in the 20th arrondissement of paris. designed by edouard francois, the block includes 98 apartments and 11 work studios, all surrounded by vertical organic gardens that have yet to mature. it’s a collective and democratic effort, as every single apartment has window planters and a south-facing balcony.

design geeking
a few suggestions for the top items that every design geek should own, courtesy of eightyone design:

polaroid mirror (by colin o’dowd, who we last mentioned here, and whose graphkins also made the list.)
easy does it

the cooper cotton mat from pottery barn comes in several sizes in colors (we like the sailor-esque navy blue), and most cost under $100. not bad for a swell summer accessory.
