the age of design

feel this home, washington edition

on vachon island near seattle sits a new home by architect/designer roy mcmakin. a fairly large structure on a bluff overlooking puget sound and situated just so in order to experience the summer and winter solstice,  the style of the home references “farm vernacular.”  the true pleasure is in the details:

cleaned up eaves, simplified window sashes and frames, simple wood board exterior

concrete structure and plate glass windows elevate a shaker-style farm kitchen

the bedroom is kept serene, only ornamented by a dramatic roofline
